Fully-automatic circular knife positioning system type Module IV equipped with expanding air shaft for bottom knives and pneumatic top knife holders
This DIENES circular knife positioning system version is best suited for fast knife positioning of small slit widths. A unique cushioned friction device offers the possibility to grip and position very small knives precisely. This concept coupled with laser technology enables the use of reground bottom knives of varying thickness without the requirement to manually input compensation factors. Loss of positioning accuracy due to wear of pin/hole engagement is not a problem with laser detection of actual slit edge.
System Operation
First, a new programme defining slit width is input via keyboard. Alternatively, an existing programme may be recalled from the possible 100 previously run setups. The laser module will travel in an initial scan cycle to feedback to the software the initial bottom knife positions. At start of positioning cycle, the independent drives for the top and bottom knife movements start simultaneously, but may move in different directions. This allows the most efficient movement of the knife pairs, with avoidance of possible interferences. The top and bottom drives each stop at the same time, thus completing the shortest possible repositioning of the system. If desired, the scan cycle may be repeated to confirm final positions. Accurate positioning insures consistent proper side load for longer blade life and precise slit widths of the end product.
